Flash Sponsorship announce major sponsorship deal under new MD Richard van der Schyff
Adding to the excitement of the long-awaited return of The Ultimate Human Race, the Comrades Marathon unveiled a new partnership with one of South Africa’s leading financial services providers, First National Bank (FNB), as the Official Financial Services Provider for the next three years.
“We are delighted for our client the Comrades Marathon, the journey that we are on with them and the faith that they have placed in Flash as their commercial agency.” says Richard van der Schyff, MD of Flash Sponsorship. “The last two years have been devastating for the sport and sponsorship industry, and Comrades did not go unscathed. Today’s announcement is the culmination of over two years of work, and as we get to grips with Covid-19, as government regulations ease up, business confidence returns, and participants flock back to enter races like the Comrades Marathon, we are confident that this coincides with the positive shift in momentum and return to a somewhat sense of normal that we are all so desperately craving. To welcome FNB to the Comrades family is testament to this and a stride in the right direction.”
“We are proud to announce that the country’s oldest banking institution, FNB has decided to partner with the Comrades Marathon. Not only are they investing in the success of The Ultimate Human Race, but they are also committed to supporting South African sports at all levels – from grassroots to greatness.” says Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) Chairperson, Mqondisi Ngcobo
“FNB has a long history of supporting participation sports, and we are excited to be a part of the world-renowned Comrades Marathon. Our participation and investment in this initiative also demonstrates our level of commitment to the reopening of our country and economy. Furthermore, we believe that the marathon and associated tourism are crucial in reviving KwaZulu-Natal’s regional economy. FNB is dedicated to maintaining its reputation as a trusted partner to its retail and commercial clients, as well as the broader society,” says Bonga Sebesho, FNB Brand Experience Head.
The 95th Comrades Marathon will be the 47th Down Run on Sunday, 28 August 2022, starting at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall at 05h30 and ending 12 hours later at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, covering a 90,2km distance.
